Don and Doff Orthotics

Founded in 2012, Don and Doff Orthotics was established to provide accessible, personalised orthotic services for children, adults and families living with disability, mobility challenges and complex health conditions.

Led by Certified Orthotist Anastasia Stefanis, the practice offers lower limb orthotic assessments, prescription and ongoing management. Appointments are available at The Physio, Rehab & Health Clinic in Carlton, as well as through a mobile service operating within a 30km radius. Home visits, school visits and community-based appointments make it easier for clients to access care in the environments where they live, learn and participate.

The focus of Don and Doff Orthotics is to improve mobility, comfort and independence through tailored orthotic and assistive technology solutions. Every assessment considers the individual's goals, daily activities and long-term needs, ensuring recommendations are both practical and effective.

We specialise in the assessment, design, manufacture and fitting of orthoses for children and adults who require support of a body part. Our services support people who have a wide range of conditions including trauma from spinal cord injury, brain injury, developmental and neuromuscular conditions, foot pathologies, lymphoedema/ lipodema and other complex mobility needs.

Orthoses are assistive devices that are applied to the external surface of the body part to correct deformity, control motion and compensate for muscle weakness.  Orthoses are commonly used to support, correct or protect parts of the body such as the head, neck, arms, legs and spine. Orthoses may help some people in performing activities of daily living.

For NDIS participants, Anastasia provides comprehensive orthotic assessments and supporting documentation to assist with funding applications and assistive technology requests.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Your Questions, Answered

  • No, you do not need a referral to see an orthotist; you can self-refer. However, if you have a physical disability that requires a specific orthosis, then a specialist doctor’s referral is needed. Other health professionals may also refer you to us so we can have a summary of your needs before our assessment.

  • The cost of an Orthotics Assessment is in line with the NDIS pricing arrangements for Orthotists. An initial assessment is usually one hour, but if casting is also required, it will take one and a half hours.

  • You will receive a quote for the Orthosis prescribed to meet your needs. This can then be lodged with your funding body for pre-approval prior to the commencement of manufacture of your orthosis.

    You may be required to sign a service agreement.

  • NDIS, Aged care and EnableNSW, Workcover and other health insurances. Other participants will require an Orthotics report and quote prior to receiving funding from their insurance scheme.

  • If you are unable to attend in person, then we can come to you in your home, school or adult program facility to make seeing an orthotist convenient.

  • Yes, depending on where you live, you may have to pay travel costs in $1/km and an additional time travel fee capped depending on how far away you live from Carlton. Sometimes this fee is waived depending on your circumstances.

  • Don and Doff Orthotics has been registered with NDIS for over 5 years. This means NDIS audits our business and ensures we meet the safety measures and experience required to be an NDIS registered provider. It also means NDIS participants will be assured that all three streams of NDIS management will be supported, ie. Self- managed, ndis provider managed and NDIA-managed.
